Checkers, or draughts, is a board game for 2 players in which each player tries to capture the opponent's pieces through a series of diagonal moves on a checkered board. The name Checkers, as you can probably tell, comes from the checkered board the game is played on. 

Checkers is derived from an older game called Alquerque or Qirkat and it first appeared in the late 10th century in the Middle East. 

Although it has many variations, the most popular form of Checkers is the American Checkers which is played on a board of 8x8. Other versions such as Russian Draughts or Turkish Draughts are played on an 8x8 board as well while the International Draughts is played on a 10x10 board. Some versions of the game, such as Canadian Checkers are played on 12x12 boards.

Checkers Games are 2 player games that can be played against another person or against the PC. In each of these instances, the games follow the standard set of rules that everyone knows and plays by. Some of them even have a small tutorial section where they teach the player the basics of the game.

While it may not appear as such, the game of Checkers is actually strategy based, like many other board games, and luck has little to do with it. Casual games of Checkers can usually be 10 to 30 minutes long, while tournament matches can last from around 60 minutes to 3 hours or more.
